Burrell Behavioral Health Receives Over $500,000 to Expand Opioid Treatment Services in Springfield

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor/HHS), today applauded the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s announcement that Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield, Mo., has received $541,350 to expand substance abuse and mental health treatment services.

“As chairman of the appropriations subcommittee that funds the Department of Health and Human Services, increasing funding for opioid-related programs has been one of my top priorities,” said Blunt. “I’ve seen firsthand the critical work Burrell is doing to expand access to treatment and prevention services in the community. I was proud to support this grant, which will allow them to reach more families in need. Ensuring Missouri health care providers have the resources necessary to address the opioid epidemic has been, and will continue to be, at the forefront of my work in the Senate.”

The Blunt-led, Senate-passed FY2019 Labor/HHS appropriations bill provides $3.7 billion for opioid-related programs, marking nearly a 1300 percent increase under Blunt’s chairmanship.

In October 2017, Blunt met with medical professionals at Burrell Behavioral Health to discuss effective behavioral and mental health treatment.
