“This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness….If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John chapter 1, verses 5 and 7.
What a wonderful devotion to start our morning. Just to know that God, the one true and perfect light, will lead us out of sins darkness to our home of light and life in heaven if we will trust, obey and follow Him.
God’s message for us today came from 2nd Corinthians chapter 7, verses 1-4. In these verses, Paul speaks of the promises God has made for us and of being filled with great comfort and joy even in all tribulations. Do we believe the promises God has for us? Are we comforted and filled with joy at the thought of God’s promises? Are we sharing that comfort and joy with others? Satan will try to convince us there is no reason to have joy in this life. He will use everything he can to try to steal the joy of God from us. Something as simple as hurtful words and actions can steal the joy from us if we allow it. I’m sure it has happened to each and every one of us at one time or another in our lives. But have we ever stopped to think about how our own words and actions affect others? Have we ever been guilty of stealing someone else’s joy?
Our words should always teach God’s truth and His promises for us, and also the consequences of a disobedient life of sin. Our words should be encouraging and uplifting, even in times of correction. Our words should tell them there is a way out of the darkness, through Jesus Christ, and into the promised light of God’s love. Our actions should show that we truly are walking with Him in His light, full of joy in the Lord. When you feel that someone is trying to steal your joy, just remember that God is always with you and His promises are always true. Let others see Christ joy in you and not only will you be filled with God’s joy, you may help someone else to find that true joy of salvation.
