What's Going On In The Bears Den?

A Huge success!
Almost 200 mothers, or other special guests, and sons attended at the Mother-Son Outdoor Adventure at the Ava R-I Sports Complex on May 3rd.  This event was a huge success because of the cooperation of our volunteers from the Missouri Department of Conservation, United States Forest Service, Lakey and Lakey Hay, Fish & Sons Lumber, in addition to Ava R-I teachers and Board members.

Safety Day
May 10 (today) at the Bears Den will be Safety Day from after school until 6:00.  Parents are urged to allow their children to stay for the entirety of Bears Den on this day.  Students will learn about ATV safety from the Douglas County Health Department, in addition to navigating through a bicycle safety course with local law enforcement.  The Howell County Fire Department will be assisted by local firemen to direct students through a fire/tornado simulation house.  School nurse, Wendy Brooke, will talk to students about the importance of protecting your skin while in the sun.  Students who successfully complete the bicycle course will be sent home with a new bicycle helmet.  All students will receive a take home packet complete with summer safety information.

End of year Celebration Field Trips!
Bears Den will celebrate outstanding attendance with special field trips on the last day of school.  All students (5th through 12th grades) who have attended for 30 days or more at Bears Den OR attend 15 of the last 20 days of school will be rewarded with a FREE field trip.    Students will travel to Branson for each event.  Middle school will enjoy Castle Rock Indoor Water Park and high school will go to The Tracks.  Kindergarten-4th grade elementary students with outstanding attendance will have fun at Splash Country at Grand Country Inn.   Elementary and middle school students not attending the field trip will have the option to stay at school for Bears Den, as usual.

Invoices
April statements were sent home with students this week.  May statements will be mailed after the last day of school.  Payments can be mailed to school or dropped off at the superintendent’s office.

Bears Den Fall 2012
Bears Den will end the last day of school this year (May 16th) but will reopen the first day of school (August 15, 2012) for the 2012-13 school year.
