Homecoming Week at Ava High School

Ava High School Homecoming Candidates for 2017 are (from left): Hailey Pederson, Andrew Boergert, Kathrin Buff, Joey Swofford, Madison Irby, and Dalton Curtis. The 2017 Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime of the Ava-Salem football game Friday night.

Ava High School and the entire Ava R-1 School District will be celebrating Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 15.
Leading up to this occasion is a week of school spirit driven activities starting with themed dress-up days for high school students and staff. The AHS Pep Club chose the theme, “There’s No Place Like Homecoming!” and has coordinated each day accordingly in connection to The Wizard of Oz.
Monday was PJ day, “There’s no place like home.”
Tuesday was mixed up or weird and wacky clothes for “Twister Tuesday.”
Wednesday’s theme was good versus evil for “Which Witch Is Which?” and today (Thursday) each grade level will wear a different color showcasing “There’s a Storm Brewing.”
Friday will be the conclusion with a traditional Ava Bears Blue and Gold Day as “Ava, the Great and Powerful.”
Friday afternoon, Ava High School Pep Club will host a pep rally in the high school gym, and the AHS Student Council will coordinate the annual Homecoming Parade.
The parade will make its way south down North Jefferson Street in front of the school buildings to the square – after passing in front of the middle and elementary schools – beginning at 2:30 p.m.
The parade this year showcases the school’s fall sport athletic programs: volleyball, softball, cross country, and football, as well as cheer squads and the Ava Pride Marching Band. Several of the school clubs and organizations will participate with their shopping cart floats! The City of Ava and the Ava City Fire Department will also be joining in the fun!
Friday night’s game will be a showdown between the Salem Tigers and our Ava Bears with kick-off happening at 7 p.m. Coronation festivities will be held during halftime to crown this year’s Ava High School Homecoming King and Queen. Candidates are Hailey Pederson, Andrew Boergert, Kathrin Buff, Joey Swofford, Madison Irby, and Dalton Curtis.
Before the game at Silvey Field, AHS StuCo members will be offering free face paint, the AHS yearbook staff will have last year’s and select previous year’s DOCOMOs for sale or pick-up, the Band Boosters will be selling merchandise, and the Project Grad 2018 parent volunteers will be selling tickets for drawings, 50/50 tickets, and funnel cakes.
