Five Hurt In Wreck West of Ava Saturday

Paramedics with Cox Ambulance and first responders with Ava Rural Fire Department care for one of five people injured in a wreck west of Ava Saturday afternoon.
Five people were injured – three seriously – in a one-car crash west of Ava last Saturday afternoon.
The wreck occurred at 1:14 p.m., three miles west of Ava on Highway 14, just past the intersection of Route K, in Douglas County.
Cox Ambulance personnel were assisted by Ava Rural and City of Ava fire departments with the more seriously injured airlifted and the others taken by ground ambulances to the hospital.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred when a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, eastbound on Highway 14, ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, went airborne, struck a stop sign, tree and fence. The car came to rest in the ditch on its side.
The driver of the car was identified as Jacqueline D. Kerr, 65, of Seymour, taken to Cox South Hospital, Springfield, with serious injuries.
Passengers included Jesse L. Jennings, 26, Seymour, serious injuries, taken to Cox South; Tiffany L. West, 24, Steelville, serious injuries, taken to Cox South; Addalynn J. West, 2, Steelville, minor injuries, taken to Cox South; and Draelynn J. West, 4, minor injuries, taken to Cox South.
Only the two children who sustained minor injuries were restrained.
The crash was investigated by Patrol Trooper J.O. Prater, assisted by Cpl. D.J. Johnson and Cpl. J.R. Roberts.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
