She was born on July 4, 1917, in Calvert, Texas, the daughter of Hiram and Addie Lovett Hunnicutt. She grew up in Fayetteville, Ark., and, after graduating high school, she obtained a teaching certificate and began teaching elementary school in Winslow, Ark.
Winslow was situated near a CCC Camp (now Devil’s Den State Park.) There she met and married her husband of 62 years, Roy Lister, who was employed at the CCC Camp. They were married on Dec. 29, 1939.
She and her husband moved from Springfield, Mo., to Gainesville in 1952 to open The Lister Drug Store and, later, Terry’s Dime Store.
Addie Lee was active in the Christian Church and various local organizations. She was actively involved in PTA on the local and state level, as well as a charter member of PEO Chapter JP. She was active in Eastern Star and was involved in numerous community betterment programs, as well as 4-H Club leadership.
Most notably, she helped conceive and organize “Hootin and Hollerin.” Her role as the “first lady” of the longstanding festival is commemorated each year when a young girl is named “Lil Miss Addie Lee.”
Addie Lee was predeceased by her parents and husband, Roy.
She is survived by her son, Terry Lister and his wife, Charlotte; her granddaughter, Sarah Venable, and her great-grandchildren, Alexis, Hannah, Taylor and Jacob Venable; and her many friends at Claridge Court.
