The Booger County Cousin Reunion was held July 7-8 at the Lions Club Building in Ava, Mo. The cousins are all grandchildren of the late George and Maggie (Hicks) Pool and the late Oriville and Hazel (Sherrill) Bushong and Hazel (Pool) Bushong. Oriville and Hazel (Sherrill) Bushong had eight children: Jesse, Willard (Buck), Bentley, Bernice, Virgie, Betty, Leatha, and Mayme. Hazel and baby girl Martha both passed away from complications of childbirth. George and Maggie Pool had 10 children: Glen, Hazel, Midge, Lynn (Buck), Irene, Veda, Juanita, Lonnie Gene, Thelma Jo, and Benny. Hazel Pool lost her first husband, Cecil Bell, to illness, so she and daughter, Raydene married Oriville and his eight children. They then had three more, Melvin, Marvin, and Dorothy. The children all brought their children to Oriville and Hazel (Pool) Bushong’s home on Sundays every chance they could. This caused the cousins to be very close. There are three girls left in the Pool family: Veda, Juanita, and Thelma Jo. There are four children left in the Bushong family: Betty, Mayme, Melvin, and Dorothy. Veda Pool married Bentley Bushong and Juanita Pool married Jesse Bushong so three sisters married two brothers and their dad, On Friday evening 24 gathered together to play games and enjoy finger foods and visiting. Those attending were Veda (Pool) Bushong, Juanita (Pool), (Bushong) Kazenske, Thelma Jo (Pool) Stephens, and their cousin Vernon Hale. The grandchildren attending were Debra (Bushong) Reed, Diana (Bushong) Davis and Butch Davis, Donna (Bushong) Dodson, Linda (Bushong) Rogers and Lyn Rogers, Jerry Pool, Jay Bushong, and Sandy Rackley (Midge’s daughter). Great-grandchildren were Bentley lott, Michael Dodson, Craig Rackley, Vicky Berry, and Mary Berry. Great-great-grandchildren included Lucas Hutchison, Bryse Dodson, Chase Dodson, Quin Breeding, Megan Goforth, Macee Breeding, and Alicia Rogers. The 72 gathering together on Saturday for a potluck dinner were children: Mayme (Bushong) Lambdin and Jim, Dorothy (Bushong) Curtis, Melvin Bushong, Thelma Jo (Pool) Stephens and John, Juanita (Pool) (Bushong) Kazenske, Veda (Pool) Bushong. The grandchildren attending were: William Lambdin, Mark and Darlene Bushong, Diana (Bushong) Davis and Butch, Sandy Rackley, Danny Bushong, Clinton and Faye Bushong, Max and Kathy Stephens, Terri (Pool) Conner and Jerry, Lisa Stephens, Lyle Bushong, Mike Strong, Jerry Pool, Marty Bushong, Jay Bushong, Debra (Bushong) Reed and Johnnie, Cecil and Cindy Dennis, Kay (Pool) Hutchison, Evelyn O’Connell, Leland and Connie Bushong, Donna (Bushong) Dodson, Linda (Bushong) Rogers and Lyn. The great-grandchildren attending were: Craig Rackley, Corey Bushong, Markie (Bushong) Sparks and Tim, Eric Stephens, Donnielle Bushong, Maggie Bushong, Lana Stephens, Riley Lawson, Jamison Conner, Vicky Berry, Mary Berry, Payton Bushong, Caleb Bushong, Jessica Dennis, and Michael Dodson. The great-great-grandchildren attending were: Owen Sparks, Stella Sparks, Gracie Garcia, Kaylee Ross, Alicia Rogers, Jesse Bushong, Lucas Hutchison, Chase Dodson, and Bryse Dodson. Other family and friends attending were: Dale Massey, Janet (Massey) Lamb, Jane Call, Kassidy Spinner, Anne Hutchison, Karee Berry, Jena Hilburn, Faye Swofford, and Vernon Hale.
