August 10-20 In Sedalia Missouri State Fair Focuses On Kids and Farm Families

Monday, Aug. 14, the Missouri State Fair will celebrate the 59th annual Farm Bureau/Farm Family Day. Farm families were nominated by the University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau to represent 112 counties in Missouri.  Farm Family Day is sponsored and supported by Missouri Farm Bureau, University of Missouri Extension, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair, and the MU College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Farm families will be recognized at a dinner in their honor at the Director’s Tent on Aug. 14. Additionally, the family names and their respective counties will be on display at an exhibit, sponsored by University of Missouri Extension, west of the Historic Administration Building. Farm Family Day offers gate admission, carnival and truck and tractor pull discounts for fairgoers. Coupons are available for the public at all Missouri county Farm Bureau offices. These coupons are good for $1 off adult gate admission, $5 off unlimited carnival ride wristband, and $5 off adult and $3 off youth Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull tickets. Coupons are valid Aug. 14.  Missouri State Fair Proud to Support the Drive to Feed Kids The Missouri State Fair is proud to partner with Missouri Farmers Care in the Drive to Feed Kids campaign.  In an effort to combat childhood food insecurity and showcase Missouri agriculture, Missouri Farmers Care (MFC) has launched Drive to Feed Kids. The Drive will leverage food bank distribution networks to deliver kid-friendly meals to hungry children across Missouri. The Drive is led by Missouri Farmers Care, Feeding Missouri, Brownfield Ag News, the Missouri State Fair and Missouri FFA. The Missouri Farmers Care effort will culminate with several events at the 2017 Missouri State Fair. THURSDAY, AUGUST 10 3:30 p.m., Director’s Tent – Screening of “Where the Fast Lane Ends,” a film showing the responsible use of agricultural science and technology.  Sawyer Brown lead singer Mark Miller wrote and produced “Where the Fast Lane Ends.” Pairs of tickets are available for a minimum donation of $25 to the Drive.  7:30 p.m., Pepsi Grandstand – Concert with Sawyer Brown and Royal Wade Kimes. Tickets are still available. TUESDAY, AUGUST 15 • Missouri Farmers Care Food Drive Tuesday  Fairgoers receive discounted admission for canned food donations ($1 off per item, up to $5 savings per adult ticket). All food donated will benefit Feeding Missouri. • Missouri FFA Food Insecurity Service Day More than 400 Missouri FFA members will gather at the State Fair to pack 50,000 child-friendly meals to benefit Meals of Hope. • Can Creation Contest, sponsored by Woods Supermarket, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Agriculture Building Teams of agriculture youth will be given 2 hours to create a themed sculpture out of canned food. Sculptures will stay on display until the final day of the Fair. The cans, provided by Woods Supermarket, will be donated to Feeding Missouri after the Fair.  Missouri Farmers Care is a joint effort by Missouri’s farming and agriculture community to stand together for the men and women who provide the food and jobs on which our communities depend. The Drive to Feed Kids is being managed by the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt public charity. Free Entertainment Feature Two family favorites will return home for the 2017 Missouri State Fair, Aug. 10-20. • The Amazing Anastasini Circus, sponsored by MFA Incorporated will bring their new Mystic Illusion Magic Show to the this year’s Fair, with three shows daily north of the Carnival Midway Entrance. These world class entertainers have been delighting audiences all over the globe since 1877. They are renowned for their performances packed with the epitome of professionalism, spontaneity, charm and elegance. Talented predecessors have inspired the current generation of Anastasinis to deliver even more precision, originality and skill in their thrilling contemporary versions. • Hedrick’s Racing Pigs Show, sponsored by Jim’s Tire Service, will feature five races daily in the tent across from the Gerken Dairy Center.   Hedrick’s Racing Pigs champion down the track to the roar of the crowd at the largest state fairs in the United States. Turn-by-turn the agile porkers, decked out in numbered racing attire speed around the track to the silver trophy platter with the Oreo cookie. Beyond just a pig race, it is a thrilling all-American family entertainment that will enrich your event.
