Family Pharmacy Hosts Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Meeting on Tuesday

Academic Students of the Month from Ava High School were recognized for September and October at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting Tuesday.

Students of the Month for September are Devon Darlington and Emily Bailey. Students of the Month for October are Alayna Brown and Chandler Roberts.

Each of the students was presented with a gift certificate from Great Southern Bank.

A new feature of the monthly luncheon meeting is the presentation of a GEM Award. This month’s award was given to Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA).

The October luncheon was hosted by Family Pharmacy of Ava.

Devon Darlington is the son of Chris and Crystal Johnson. He is a member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, TREND, cross country, and Link Crew.

In his spare time, Devon enjoys coaching a city league soccer team for 5th & 6th graders. He recently created a video to submit for the Missouri School Board Association Video Contest and also created a video for the Care-to-Learn presentation at the Missouri School Board Association State Conference.

Devon has a GPA of 3.96 and will graduate with two college credits.

After high school, Devon plans on attending college, but is undecided at this time on his major.

Devon’s teachers chose him for Academic Student of the Month because “he takes upper level courses and Honors classes to prepare for college and challenge himself. Devon is a very responsible young man who stands out as a leader among his peers.”

Emily Bailey is the daughter of James Bailey III and Mary Jane Bailey. She is active in band, mixed chorus, concert choir, Tri-M, Anchor Club, FCA, and Jazz Band.

Emily has been in two musicals, excelled with two instruments, and has made All-District Band twice.

Emily has a 3.9 GPA and will graduate with nine college credits.

After high school, Emily plans on attending Missouri State University and majoring in education with a minor in music.

Emily’s teachers chose her for Academic Student of the Month because she “is an outstanding student. She juggles multiple activities and completes all of the tasks asked of her. Her grades and attendance have been wonderful!”

Alayna Brown is the daughter of Jason and Rachelle Brown.

Alayna is the president of National Honor Society, co-commissioner of Link Crew and is involved in Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pep Club, and the A+ Program.

She attended Johns Hopkins University for a medical summit during her sophomore year as a People-to-People Student Leader-ship Ambassador.

Alayna has a high GPA and will graduate with 18 college credits.

After high school, Alayna plans on attending a 4-year university to major in pre-med and then apply to medical school.

Alayna’s teachers chose her for Academic Student of the Month because she “is focused on academics. She has set her life goals high and will do whatever it takes to reach those goals!”

Chandler Roberts is the son of Mike and Christina Roberts. He is a member of Pep Club, FFA, National Honor Society, golf team, Student Council, and Future Business Leaders of America.

Chandler is also involved in the Ava High School Leadership Program and Care to Learn – Mobile Food Pantry.

Chandler has a GPA of 4.19 and will graduate with 33 college credits.

After high school, Chandler plans on attending Missouri Southern to study pre-med.

Chandler’s teachers chose him for Academic Student of the Month because “he takes academics very seriously. He has achieved A’s throughout high school, even in the most difficult classes.”
