Ava Volleyball Girls Take Their Game on the Road

The Lady Bears volleyball team took their game to the road last Thursday night when they traveled to Spokane to take on the Lady Owls.

Both the JV and varsity teams got their first road victories of the season.   The JV won 25-21, 25-17 and the varsity followed with scores of 25-23, 25-19.

“Both teams came out and played really well,” said Head Coach Sarah Roy. “We served super tough and played together as a team,” Roy added. In the JV match Emaly Keyes led the team in serves with 15 and had four aces, Olivia Heriford and Kate McDonald  added one ace apiece.

In the varsity match senior Shelby Bushong led in aces with five, followed by senior Cera Longino with three. Bushong, Longino, and freshman Claire Fossett each added one kill apiece during the match.

“We didn’t play to our full potential but we fought hard enough and worked together to get the win,” said Roy.   The Lady Bears improved their record to 2-1 for the season and were traveling to Forsyth for the annual tournament there on Saturday.

The team will be on the road this week to Marshfield and New Covenant Academy before returning home to play Forsyth here on Sept. 8.
