The Ava R-I School Board held a special closed session meeting on Thursday, August 11, and according to the agenda, the principal topic was personnel.

Superintendent Dr. Nancy Lawler reports board members voted to hire Jennifer Pitts as a special education aide, as well as assistant coach to the high school girls basketball team.  The board employed Diana Premer as Bears Den after-school program coordinator, and Joe Shantz as the assistant to high school football.

These positions are for the 2016-17 school year.

According to Lawler’s report, each prospective applicant garnered a 6-0 vote of approval from the board, as Vernon Johnson was absent from the session.

Meeting again today, August 18, board members and administrators will gather at 5:30 p.m. for the annual campus facilities walk-through.  At 6:15 p.m., the board will convene for a tax rate hearing, with the monthly business meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m.  Meetings are open to the public.
