Graduation Activities Begin For Ava High School Seniors

The graduation process for approximately 100 Ava High School seniors begins this week with a myriad of activities.

The annual Honor Awards Program will be held Friday morning in the Ava Performing Arts Center, beginning at 9:30 a.m. At this program, thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards will be presented to graduating seniors.

Following the awards program, the traditional Senior Assembly will be held in the high school gymnasium beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Earlier in the day on Friday, many of the seniors will hold their Senior Bike Ride from the square to the high school. Seniors participating in this event are to meet at the gazebo on the square at 7:25 a.m.

Following the awards program and prior to the Senior Assembly, seniors will don their caps and gowns and walk through the corridors of the Ava Elementary and Middle School.

Baccalaureate Sunday, May 8

The traditional baccalaureate service for the graduating class will be held Sunday evening in the APAC beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Prior to the baccalaureate service, a pre-baccalaureate dinner will be held in the cafeteria, beginning at 5 p.m. The sponsoring Ava Ministerial Alliance is asking that those planning to attend please RSVP so adequate meals can be prepared.

Baccalaureate is sponsored and conducted by the Ministerial Alliance in cooperation with the school.

Commencement Sat., May 14

Commencement exercises for the 2016 class will be held Saturday night, May 14, at Dr. C.E. Harlan Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m. In the event of inclement weather the graduation program would move to the high school gym.

Immediately following graduation, the students will board buses at the football field for Project Graduation.

Alumni Banquet May 7

The annual Ava High School Alumni Banquet will be held this Saturday night, May 7, beginning at 6 p.m., in the high school gym.

Several classes are planning reunions in conjunction with the banquet, including 1951, 1956, 1958, 1966 and 1971, and perhaps others.

Bill Mackey, class of 1966, is president of the Alumni Banquet Committee this year.

The banquet meal will be catered by Party Works Catering, of Springfield.

Included on the program will be the induction of a former teacher into the Alumni Foundation Hall of Fame.
