Alta Louise (Hardcastle) McGill
Alta Louise (Hardcastle) McGill, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed from this life on May 6, 2016.
She was a woman who cherished her family and her faith. She enjoyed gardening, reading her Bible, talking on the phone to family and friends, and sewing.
Over the years she canned many vegetables and relishes, cooked many meals, and collected many “pretties” while garage sale hopping.
Alta Louise Hardcastle was born March 14, 1928 in Squires, Mo., to Earl and Dicie Rae Hardcastle. She was so tiny when she was born that her father carried her around on a pillow.
She married Archie Wesley McGill on Dec. 25, 1945, in Mountain Home, Ark. Archie had to climb up on the roof to get the justice of the peace down from making home repairs to perform the ceremony.
She had three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Archie Wesley McGill; her son, Jerry Clinton McGill; and her brothers, Eldon Hardcastle and Robert Hardcastle.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Leach; son John McGill and wife Janece; daughter-in-law, Kathy Schmidt, of Texas; granddaughter, Dawn Leach, of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; five grandsons, Wesley (Amber) of Colorado, Adam (Krystal) of Kansas City, Grant of California, Mitchell (Stefanie) of St. Louis, Christopher of Crowley, Texas; two great-grandsons, Eian, of Colorado, and John Milo, of St. Louis; sisters Mildred Pueppke, of Ava, Mo., Freeda Adams, of Marshall, Mo., and Betty Lou Taylor, of Scott City, Mo.; and brothers, Earl Hardcastle Jr. and Donald Hardcastle, of Rochelle, Ill.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at South Haven Baptist Church in Belton, Mo. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In memory of Alta the family suggests contributions to the South Haven Baptist Church Building Fund and spending time with your family.
