Bethany Baptist Church

The ladies plan to meet for their Bible Study at 1:15, Friday afternoon. They will continue their study in Genesis on what the Bible teaches about creation.

Trevor Martin, church planter in Montana, will be speaking at Bethany Baptist Church this Sunday morning. There will be lunch at noon in the fellowship hall and a 1:00 p.m. service directly following lunch. There will be no evening service.

The church interior has been decorated for Christmas and the Jubilee Singers have been practicing Christmas music for a Christmas program on December 21 following the Annual Soup and Pie Fellowship. There are several Christmas traditions that we look forward to each year. One of them will be the Christmas party at the Pastor’s house on Friday, December 18 and the “Name that Tune” night, December 23. These events have been the occasion for a lot of fun in years past.

The Jubilee Singers sang a special, Sunday morning before Pastor Bob Sorensen brought his message on “Enough is Enough.” The Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast,” (Ephesians 2:8 and 9).

Salvation was finished at the cross. We cannot and must not try to add anything to it for then our faith would be in our ability. Anything short of absolute faith is not faith. The blood that was shed at the cross was enough. It was accepted as full payment for our sins. Our part is to admit and accept that we need such a Savior. When we believe the word of God and put our trust in the finished work of Jesus, our salvation is secure. As we continue in the word of God we can grow in adding to our faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, and brotherly kindness. These will not secure salvation, but are the result of salvation and attention to the blessed Word of God.
