What a wonderful day we had in the Lord and in fellowship with one another this beautiful Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Black Jack Church. Our prayer time and congregational singing of worship and praise was so good. Then we enjoyed the study of chapter 6 of Job in the adult class. What an interesting and eye-opening book this is for our group. We thank God as He speaks to us through the reading and understanding of His Word.
Pastor Vic Murdy based his message on Jeremiah 17:5-8, pointing our that God has many promises/blessings that we will find as we read His Word; however, they do come with conditions that must be met. Verses 7 and 8 read “blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is the Lord. He shall be like a tree planted by the waters……” But on the other hand, verse 5 and 6 reads “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord, For he shall be like a shrub in the desert….” God wants to bless us. Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you; thoughts of good and not of evil to give you a future and a hope.” We do not know nor can we imagine the blessings that God has planned for us each day. When I mis-step and before I become repentant again, I wonder what blessing or how many blessings I just let the devil steal from me. Matthew 6:24-31 tells us that we cannot serve two masters – we cannot serve God and mammon. We are to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things (clothing, food, etc) will be added unto you. 2 Corinthians 6:17, “therefore come out from among them and be separate” God says; don’t be as the world would indicate you should be. Rather be as He desires us to be as He instructs us in His Word and through His Word. Hebrews 6:17 and 18 reads that, “Thus God determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an other, that by two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie.” Psalms 37:23-24 tells us that, “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not utterly be cast down.” God states that he shall be a Father to us and we shall be his sons and daughters. So we are to trust in God for all things, thanking Him for His promises and praising Him as we wait on Him and receive of Him. We serve a mighty and great God.
This was our 5th Sunday Fellowship Sunday, and we enjoyed a great meal following our morning service. For the afternoon service, songs were sung. Then we were blessed to hear preaching of the Word from Bro Michael Maloney who spoke from John 1 that the Lord is the light of the world. He, being in us, shines from us into the world. Then Brother Joe Hickey preached from Matthew chapter l; without the birth of our Lord, we could not be looking forward to our Resurrection Day celebration. Brother William Romans spoke from Genesis 19 regarding the times of Lot, Sodom and Gomorrah, reflecting on the fact that our world has been changing and our direction is not a good one. What happened then can happen again. No one believed that Noah needed an ark until the flood waters came. Then it was too late. We pray for all to have the understanding of what God has told us will happen and respond accordingly to His call for redemption. Brother Joe Hickey added that Jesus was the angel of light written of in the scriptures.
We had a great time in song and hearing the Word spoken. Our next Sunday service will be a sunrise morning service only beginning at 6:30 a.m. followed by a breakfast fellowship. All are welcome. The children will have an egg hunt after service.
