Malnutrition and isolation are becoming a contributing factor in more seniors going from their homes to nursing facilities. Making a choice to snack and not eat nutritional meals is a contributing factor.

The Ava Senior Center provides a nutritional site where you can get a balanced meal. We offer a salad bar three days a week and an opportunity to request a substitute if you would prefer.

We also provide tax, Medicare, and other information to assist people with making decisions that affect their quality of life.

We also work with different health care providers to help provide different screenings that may catch a problem that you may not be aware of.

Activities include pitch tournaments the first and third Tuesday of each month and a pinochle tournament the second Wednesday of each month. Cards are played daily, as well as, line dancing in the basement once a week. Pitch tournament winners this last week were; Millie Heavner, Bill Hahn, and Rosalie Maisel all from Christian County.

Nutrition programs are planned on a quarterly basis to help insure that people are aware of the need to eat healthy and exercise. Take a minute to review what you prepared this week for your three meals a day and see how many vegetables, fruits, grains, and milk you have consumed.
