Ruby Proctor, 88

Ruby Proctor, daughter of the late John and Goldie (Stout) Hicks was born on Feb. 19, 1925 in Tedrick, Mo., in Douglas County and passed away on Jan. 10, 2014 at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Mo., at 88 years of age.
Ruby grew up in Douglas County and married Vasel Proctor on May 27, 1942.  Four children were born to this union.  She and Vasel raised their family on a farm in Drury, Mo.  Vasel passed away on June 4, 1980.
Ruby worked for many years at Cloud Oak, which later became Fordick Corporation. She also worked at Town and Country in the Bakery Department for several years.
Ruby was a member of the Southside Church of Christ and was baptized on the same day as her good friend, Esther Wrinkles, in Fox Creek in 1943.
Ruby enjoyed spending time crocheting, embroidering, working word puzzles, and spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens.  She especially enjoyed working with her roses.  Ruby loved to go to picnics and bluegrass festivals and attending the Fairview and Champion School reunions.
In 1987, Vice President George H. W. Bush, Sr., visited Mountain Grove. Ruby made him a gooseberry pie to take back to Washington.
Ruby was especially proud of her children and grandchildren who served in the military.
Besides her parents and her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by two brothers:  Dewayne and Gene Hicks; by four sisters:  Freda Rowe, Toots Lawson, Faye Goss, and Leona Hicks; and by an infant great-grandson:  Kyle Jean Tooley.
She is survived by three sons:  Lyman (Pete) Proctor and his wife, Phyllis, of Mountain Grove, Mo., Gary Proctor and his wife, Christie, of West Plains, Mo., and Frankie Proctor and his wife, Freda, of Mountain Grove; one daughter:  Barbara Cooper and her husband, Darrell, of Norwood, Mo.; one brother:  Ray Hicks and his wife, Donna, of Blue Grass, Iowa; three sisters:  Amy Collins of Mountain Grove, Elsie Curtis of Norwood, and Sharon Smith of Mountain Grove; six grandchildren:  Tonya Tooley, Bryan Proctor, Pam Cooper, Tommy Cooper, Jenny Brame, and James Proctor; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Ruby Proctor were held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Irvin Barnes officiating.  Bill Downs, Robert Upshaw, Bryan Proctor, James Proctor, Tommy Cooper, and James Tooley served as pallbearers. Bill Rowe, Dave Adams, Duke McIntosh, Tom Hicks, Wes Collins, Gerald Harrison, JR Curtis, and Larry Curtis served as honorary pallbearers.  Song selections were:  “Sissie’s Song”, “Amazing Grace”, “Peace In The Valley”, and “I’ll Fly Away”.  Sara Swisloski served as musician. Burial was in the Denlow Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Mo.
