The bitterest and most dangerous winter storm to strike the Ozarks in 20 years made a pass through the Midwest last weekend. Heavy snow fell across the area, leaving behind a blanket of around 6 inches in the Ava area. The strong north wind caused heavy drifting and drove the wind chill to 20 and 30 below zero on Sunday. A low temperature of -9 degrees was recorded in Ava both Sunday and Monday mornings. The picture above was taken Sunday afternoon on NE 5th Street. The photo at left shows a snow drift some 18 inches deep in front of the former Ava Ambulance Station on NW 12th Ave.
