Ava Bears Improve to 8-8 With Two Wins This Week

The Ava Bears picked up two wins on the road this week, beating Houston in SCA action last Friday night, then defeating Marion C. Early at Morrisville on Tuesday.
The 44-36 win at Houston was Ava’s first conference contest of the season.
With the win at Morrisville Tuesday night the Bears stand at 8-8 on the season.
Next week the Bears will enter the Conway tournament as the No. 4 seed. Ava will face Stoutland at 8:30 Monday in first-round action.
Crane is the top seed, followed by Warsaw and Conway. Fordland is No. 6, followed by Buffalo and Laquey.
Brandon Guengerich led the Bears in scoring at Houston on Friday, connecting for 17 points on the night. Houston’s Devin Coulter led all scorers with 18 points.
Others scoring for the Bears, which led 23-16 at halftime, included Ben Loge 8, Tristan Haltom 7, Anthony Rosas 6, Cody Huff 3, Cooper Emerich 2 and Seth Dobbs 1.
Ben Loge had his best game of the season at Morrisville Tuesday night as the Bears defeated the Marion C. Early Panthers 70-55.
Loge scored 26 points on the night for the Bears, and connected on 9 of 10 at the free throw line. Ava was 24-of-30 at the line in the game.
Ava led 29-25 at halftime, then went on an 11-0 run in the third quarter to build a lead that would secure the win.
Coach Nathan Houk said this is the first time Ava has defeated Morrisville in at least four seasons.
Cooper Emerich connected on three 3-point shots and finished the game with 12 points on the night. Haltom was also in double digits with 10 points.
Others scoring for the Bears were Guengerich 9, Dobbs 5, Huff 3, Chase Gastineau 3, and Rosas 2.
Looking beyond the Conway tournament next week, the Bears will have conference games on the road at Salem and Cabool the first week of February, then will finish out the regular season with four consecutive SCA games at home before entering district tournament play.
