Amended Schedules Call For Tournaments To Begin Tonight at Mansfield and Cabool

The early winter snow storm that attacked this area last week disrupted basketball schedules, along with other events, including basketball tournaments at both Mansfield and Cabool.

As it stands now, both tournaments will begin play tonight (Thursday), with games to be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday (weather permitting).

Ava’s boys are in the Mansfield Invitational Tournament. Seeded second, the Bears will play New Covenant Academy in the first round on Thursday.

The Bears were originally scheduled to play at 6 p.m., but with all first-round games being played on Thursday, the times will likely change.

Semifinals and consolation bracket games will be played on Friday night, with finals on Saturday, beginning with the seventh place game at 3 p.m.

According to the original bracket, the consolation championship game would be at 4:30 Saturday, the third place game at 6 p.m. and the championship at 7:30.

Gainesville is the top seed in the tournament and will play Riverview in first-round action. Mansfield is No. 3 and will play Houston; and No. 4 Niangua will play Norwood in the first round.

The Ava Lady Bears are in the Cabool Lady Bulldogs Invitational and will also play tonight in first-round action. Ava faces No. 3 Salem at 8:30.

All four first-round games will be played tonight beginning with No. 1 Dora and Cabool at 4 p.m.; No. 4 Houston vs. Seymour at 5:30; and No. 2 Mtn. Grove and Willow Springs at 7 o’clock.

Losers bracket games will be played at 4 and 5:30 p.m. Friday with the semifinals games at 7 and 8:30 p.m.

Finals on Saturday will begin with the consolation championship at 3 o’clock, the third place game at 4:30, and the championship game at 6 o’clock.

In one other game note, the Ava vs. Mansfield boys’ game that was to have been played last Friday night has been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, at Mansfield, beginning with the junior varsity game at 6 o’clock.

The regular schedule calls for the Lady Bears to play at Hartville Monday, Dec. 16, and to host Rogersville on Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Bears will be at home Tuesday, Dec. 17, against Hartville, and will play at Reeds Spring on Friday, Dec. 20.
