The Carl Neiman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on October 10, 2013, at 7:10pm, in the basement of the Ava General Baptist Church. Our meeting was called to order by Regent Nina Carter and opened with prayer by Chaplin Sherry Beasley. The Pledge of Allegiance, Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the American’s Creed were recited by the membership. A welcome to all guests was extended by the Regent. Regent Nina gave the President General’s Message. The President General’s message was about service. Secretary Helen Hoogendoorn was absent due to family illness. Regent read the minutes from the last meeting. There was one correction and the minutes were accepted as read with a motion from Janet Ariciu to accept and a second by Judy Ross. Treasurer Judy Ross gave the Treasurer’s Report. The members that attended the SW District Meeting were: Sandra Walker, Nina Carter and Janet Ariciu. They reported that the meeting went very well. We received the Level II Chapter Achievement Award along with several others. Nina gave her Regents Report at the District Meeting. We also received our packet. Also the MSSDAR is writing a book that can be ordered in February of 2014. This book is a Memorial Book about the women in our lives or that have been in our lives, which have made a real impact. We were sorry to hear that Logan Brown had fallen. He has been in and out of the hospital and is having trouble sleeping. We have two more prospective members. Katheryn Lewis’ mother and daughter may be joining our ranks. There may also be another person interested in join besides them. Our program was provided by Murl and Marge Pierson. It was a wonderful program on Native American practices and heritage. We appreciate Murl and Marge taking the time to provide us with this wonderful program!! Regent Nina dismissed the membership and Chaplin Sherry dismissed us with prayer. We then enjoyed refreshments provided by Nina and Janet. Our next meeting will be November 14th, at 7pm. Our program is a DVD of Vietnam Era Veteran’s experiences. Have a wonderful month.
