The Douglas County Republican Committee presents “Common Core Curriculum – Pro or Con? Learn What Our Government has Planned for Our Children’s Education.”
This is another in a series of public lectures, forums and panel discussions addressing issues affecting everyone.
The speaker will be Mary Byrne, who is well-versed in the controversies surrounding the Common Core program. She has a masters’ of education in instructional design and a doctorate in special education from the Teachers’ College at Columbia University. She has spent the past 25 years in education – her first 10 years as a teacher in special education for all grade levels from parent-infant programs through K-12, the last 25 years as an instructor in undergraduate through graduate levels – including work as a coordinator of curriculum, assessment and accreditation. Her current professional interest is in differential instruction for all students in the regular classroom and supporting parents as their children’s most important teachers.
This event will be held at the Ava Victory Academy auditorium (between Taco Bell and McDonalds) on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is invited. Your comments and questions are always welcome at these meetings.
