On August 11, 2013 a school reunion of two of the country schools was held at the Bruner Community building. A large crowd enjoyed a potluck dinner. Pleasant Hope District 19 school’s last year was in 1955. It first consolidated into the Dogwood School, later they both, as well as, other community schools went into the Ava School system.
We were pleased that one of the Pleasant Hope teachers was present, Mona Gaulding Decker. She renewed old memories for us. She told us about all that we didn’t have when she came. We thought we had all that we needed. Back then all you needed was a Big Chief tablet, an eraser and an extra long pencil. It’s always fun when someone tells something that you had forgotten.
It will be held again next year on the second Sunday afternoon in August.
