The varicella zoster virus resides within a person’s nerve roots near the spinal cord after they have contracted chickenpox, then ‘wakes up’ with the onset of shingles. While it’s not known what awakens the virus, some risk factors among people that may increase their risk for later contracting shingles include: being 60 or older; suffering from injury or illness’ or dealing with a compromised immune system brought about by illness and/or treatments, for example cancer, HIV.

Shingles starts off with tinglings, burning, sensitive areas of skin that usually develop into a rash, fever, headache, and fatigue are other common systems.

The Jam Session Band will be playing down at the Ava Live Theater on Thursday night, September 26. Please come by and show your support. Support the concessions while you’re there. The band from last Monday night included a new piano player and a mandolin. I know there are some that live right here in Ava that have never been down to listen, but we have visitors from Springfield that have heard about us, so come on down and see what we’re about. The crowd was almost 150 and donations were over 150.

Winners in the pinochle tournament last Wednesday were Annabelle (1434), Gayle (1081) and Margaret (910). There were two tables with five games. Did four players only make six points in one hand?

Five tables and six games were played in the pitch tournament on Tuesday this week. Overall winners were Bonnie (260), Jerry H. (248) and Connie (247). Congratulations to these individuals.

A reckless driver is a person who passes you on the highway…in spite of all you can do.

Until next week, have a great one!
