Ava Kiwanis Club News

Greetings from Kiwanis Club of Ava!  We have been questioned several times in the past few weeks why we are just celebrating 25 years as a club, so we decided to use this column to answer those questions.
Yes, there are many in town who remember Kiwanis Club of Ava from years ago.  Some are even former members.  The reason is simple.  I did not look up the dates, but Kiwanis Club of Ava has disbanded at least twice since it first started in Ava.  The current charter was issued on Sept. 15, 1988, thus we celebrated our 25th anniversary two weeks ago.  We appreciate your interest and hope that solves any confusion on the matter.
At last week’s meeting, we met with Asst. High School Principal Aaron Dalton and September “Citizens of the Month.”  There were also some family members present. It was also the membership renewal deadline so that we can get an updated roster to Kiwanis International for billing purposes.
On Friday, Sept. 27, some of our members plan to attend the Substance Abuse Awareness Meeting at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall at 1st Southern Baptist Church.  That night is a home game, so some of our members will be making funnel cakes that night.
Kiwanis Kids Day is this Saturday Sept. 28, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the city park. We are hoping to go over final details at this week’s meeting.  For more information, contact Donna Dixon at (417) 683-1918 or email mailto:donna171@centurytel.net
We also have several other things on the agenda to discuss.  Our October calendar is loaded and we have at least two more events to schedule.  We are always busy “serving the children of the world.” If you have an interest in children and think you might like to become involved, feel free to visit any upcoming meetings held on Thursdays at noon in the back room at Krazy Daze Cafe.  There will be no obligation to join for attending a meeting.
If you know of a program you think would be of interest to our members and the community, please contact Donna Dixon at 683-1918 to schedule a date.  For all other questions about our club, contact Glenda Little at (417) 844-0408 or visit our Facebook page by typing in “Ava Kiwanis” in the search box and be sure to “like” our page.  Have a great week!
