The summer seems to have flown by and here it is time for school to begin. I’m sure parents are thrilled just as the kids are sorry to see the summer gone. It’s been a strange summer as far as the weather but we thank God for it all.
We had a great time at our camps this year, as well as, a wonderful time during Vacation Bible School. We appreciate everyone who helped with VBS. It would not have been possible without all the volunteers that helped make it a great success.
Our youth group has started up again on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. and our Bible studies on Wednesday nights for whoever would like to join in, starts at 7 p.m.
This Sunday Pastor Oren started a new series of sermons about disputable matters. Scripture this week was from Romans 14:13-23. We want to remember to help other Christians in love by not putting stumbling blocks in the way. Sometimes people make a list of what is acceptable and what is not. What we need to do is have love for everyone and try to direct or help others see the path God wants for all of us. We all have sins and only with the help of Jesus, can we overcome and grow in our faith. And as we grow in our faith, we have to realize that other Christians may need help in different ways than us. Remember that finding Jesus is the goal and we need to help one another to reach that goal.
Pray for all those who were mentioned on Sunday morning. Many of us have our own special needs or unspoken requests, so we need to keep up the prayer chains. Remember Judy Phillips, Dean Davis, Connor Loftin, Carolyn Wallace and the Jerry Hall family.
Pray for the students and teachers as they start a new year in school. We praise God for Marvin and Faye Wray who will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
On Friday Aug. 23rd the church health meeting will take place at Noel and Brenda Dye’s home at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday the 25th, the 4th singing will be at Faith Rock Church from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome. That evening of the 25th, there will be fellowship after our services at 6 p.m. Come for food and fellowship after the evening service.
Sunday Sept 1st, our evening services will be dismissed for the Labor Day holiday. It is coming up fast.
We extend an open invitation to everyone to come visit us at Ava General Baptist Church. We have 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services as well as 6 p.m. services each Sunday. We have Sunday school classes for everyone and we’d love to have you join us for that.
Have a great week and look to help out others who may be struggling a little this week. We all need a little helping hand now and then and your influence and willingness to help others may mean the world to someone who is losing hope and doesn’t know where to turn. Don’t judge and walk away, but do as Jesus would do. Love is the key.
See you Sunday. God Bless.
