The menu for this week is: Monday, July 8—Sweet and sour pork, rice, egg roll, Oriental vegetables, brownie. Tuesday, July 9–Taco salad, Mexican corn, fruit crisp. Wednesday, July 10—Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll, hot apples. Thursday, July 11—Fish, hush puppies, O’Brian potatoes, coleslaw, pudding. Friday, July 12—Polish sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, peas, cookie.

Cutting down on sodium and eating more potassium-rich foods could prevent deaths caused by heart disease and stroke. In one study, even slightly reducing salt intake for four weeks caused a significant drop in blood pressure. Cut back on prepared foods for less salt intake. And some potassium rich foods include bananas, citrus fruit, spinach and root vegetables, like potatoes, especially with the skin on.
The activities for this week include: Monday—Jam session 6-9. Tuesday—Tai chi senior exercise class 10, OATS bus to Ozark. Wednesday—Pinochle tournament, OATS bus rural Ava to Ava. Thursday—Driver’s exam 9:30-3:30 (motorcycle exam 10-11 only). Friday—Tai chi senior exercise class 10, OATS bus in and around Ava.
Mosquito bites can transmit the dangerous West Nile virus and other diseases including malaria, and dengue fever. When you’re outside at dawn and dusk, wear long sleeves, long pants, socks and closed-toe shoes. Mosquitoes are most active at these times. Spray clothes with an insect repellant containing deet, picardin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Off! Back Woods Sportsmen II and Cutter Backwoods Unscented are best.
