Douglas Co. Democrats Meet June 4

The Douglas County Democrats met on June 4.  Chair Gene Cherry called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.  Minutes from June’s meeting were shared with all members and Treasurer Chaz Franzke gave the his monthly report.

Gene Cherry reported on May’s Farmer’s Market and he reminded us that we should contribute homemade items Saturday, June 7, to the Farmer’s Market on the Ava square. He also asked that members come to volunteer their time from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. He indicated it should be a busy time as the city yard sale will be on. Some discussion was held about either changing our location from the gazebo or getting signs to point the way.

The Chair also told the members that Judge Bock will be at our next meeting and will discuss how our local court operates.

The Chair also handed out pins to participating members in recognition for having helped with the highway cleanup of the section of Highway 76 adopted by our group.

Gene said we need to discuss soon how to increase our membership, perhaps with a membership drive of some kind.  Also it was mentioned that it would be nice to hold a registration drive and we should find out what the rules or restrictions are for doing that.

Members were reminded that the special election to elect a U.S. Representative for the 8th Congressional District was in progress.

The next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 9, at Krazy Daze restaurant.  Dinner will be at 5 p.m. The meeting will follow at 5:30 p.m.  If you have any questions about July’s meeting, you are encouraged to contact Secretary Tanya Williams at 417-683-3884.

Motion was made and seconded to adjourn.  Motion passed unanimously and meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
