SPECIAL MOTHER’S DAY PROGRAM TODAY by  Chelsie Jones.  Jimmie Marler gave a Jesus drawing to each family.  Pat Moore handed out a gift to each mother/ grandmother.  Eva and Aspen Housley and Blake Alexander assisted in delivering the plants.  Chelsie did awards and gave a plant to:  the oldest mother (Lola Dennis); the youngest mother (Samantha Smith); the mother with the most children (Phyllis Virtue); the mother with the most children and grandchildren (Virginia Housley); the mother that traveled the farthest (Jennifer Serghides); and the mother with the most family members present (Debbie Parks).  Chelsie also read 3 poems for Mother’s Day: My Grandmother Taught Me, A Slice of Life, and Surprise Cake.   Bro. Rick had an excellent sermon telling how a mother’s yearly worth in dollars is estimated at $59,000.  He read a very funny story called, “Mom’s brownie recipe”.  He gave his sermon out of Luke and John-the story of Mary being the mother of Jesus.  God was very selective of who became the mother of Jesus.  Mary found favor in God’s eyes because she was a faithful woman who believed and was submissive, even though she probably wasn’t sure what others would think of her situation being a virgin with child.  Bro. Rick referred to other times in the Bible when Jesus was just 12 years old, and he wandered off to the temple doing his Father’s business.  He obeyed his parents and went home with them after they left the temple.  He also told of a time when they ran out of wine at a wedding, and he performed a miracle to please his mother.  Then he told how on the cross he wanted John to take care of his mother, and John lived to an old age so he could do that.  We should all give thanks to our ‘Mommas’ and give thanks to God for giving them to us.  Questions: call Bro. Rick Batten at 683-5657 or 417-250-0918.  Visitors are always welcome.
