Bethany Baptist Church

Bethany Baptist Church was pleased to have guests come in Sunday morning. Guests are always welcome to all the services and activities at the church.

There will be a Ladies’ Bible Study, Thursday morning at 8:30 to 10:00. They are studying the Leviticus instructions on the different offerings and how we can make an acceptable offering in this day and age.

Friday there will be a “Pizza and Movie” night with Darlene making her good “healthy” pizza with whole wheat dough. It is always good.

Norma Stillings was happily trying out an electronic organ that has been donated to the church. The old organ that had served so well for many, many years had finally failed and it was so old that there was no place to go to for parts. The “new-to-us” organ has a lot of buttons and special effects to be studied, but Norma is dedicated to figuring it all out. It is hoped that it will be used to honor the Lord in making joyful sounds for a long, long time.

The Jubilee Singers are small in number, but great in spirit. They meet at 4:30 on Sunday afternoons before the evening church service. Dan Stillings directs the group using the natural talent he inherited from a long line of church musicians and the training he got back in band and choir while attending Ava Schools. The Jubilee Singers sang a special Sunday morning before the pastor brought his message.

There is an unfortunate tendency in society today to dismiss the concept of absolute truth in favor of a concept of relative truth. The Apostle Paul told Timothy that “the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine…” This attitude puts people’s eternal lives in jeopardy.  Pastor Bob Sorensen described this “designer truth” as always changing as the search goes on for new ideas that attract rather than correct. This “truth” is more experimental in doing what “feels good.”

Discovered truth or absolute truth is based on a faith in the eternal, unchanging Author of Truth, our Creator God. This truth is “discovered” in God’s word, in the “Thus saith the LORD” statements found in the good old King James Version Bible. This kind of truth rebukes sin and exhorts us to study ourselves, and urges us to alter our course in the light of God’s word of truth. This kind of truth will endure when our lives here end and we stand in judgement before a holy and righteous judge.
