Sunday, February 10th was the Sunday called Quinquagesima or the Sunday next before Lent, approximately 50 days before Easter. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the gospel for the day, st. Luke 18:31 “and they (the disciples) understood none of these things…” Jesus had tried to prepare them for the coming events of his passion and resurrection and make them understand that they would witness the fulfillment of history and the greatest event of history.
After the service we enjoyed our annual pancake day, with pancakes, eggs and sausages in preparation for Lent, which will begin on Wednesday of this week with the Ash Wednesday service. In New Orleans and southern European countries this week is Mardi Gras or Carnival celebration but we make do with pancakes.
Bishop Glen Hartley leads services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Saint Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church. Visit our website at stfrancisavamo.org.
