Rock Chapel Freewill Baptist Church

We have all had a wonderful Christmas season, and we feel truly blessed this holiday.  We have had many good events at the church.  The ladies met at the parsonage for food, presents, and games on December 7- organized by Helen Batten.  Secret Sisters drew names for next year again.  December 16 was the potluck dinner and Christmas program- directed by Sandy Housley.  Tammi Housley provided the Wednesday night Bible study classes with refreshments on December 19. Pat Moore made everyone a Christmas goodie bag full of fruit and candy.  Everyone received Christmas cards in their church mailboxes throughout the month.   We have had many wonderful readings and song specials plus Children’s Church throughout the month.  So many have helped make the services special this month.

Birthdays this month:  Rick Batten, Sharon Renfrow, Pat Moore, Eva Housley.

Anniversaries:  Jimmie and Sharon Marler, and Trent and Chelsie Jones.

Those on the prayer list:  servicemen, cancer patients, Kaye Garrison, our country, Billy Odom, Jess Porter, those traveling, Lena Dodson, Jennifer Alexander, Raymond Sharr, the Connecticut tragedy and their friends and families, Lugene Dobson’s family, and so many others with health and family problems.

The ladies in the church have provided meals for Lugene Dobson’s funeral and to the Alexander home this month.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  This Thursday, January 3, 2013, 7:00 a.m. MEN’S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST.  Bro. Rick Batten has now been our pastor for over 2 years as of Thanksgiving.  We appreciate him for all his guidance and wonderful teachings throughout the last 2 years.  Shelby Housley presented him with cards of appreciation this month.

Today’s sermon was from Psalms 16: 8-11 and Revelations 21.  Bro. Rick asked each of us to help others during this holiday and in the future while we are waiting for the coming of the Lord.  We all have so much:  food, clothes, home, and a car to drive.  We need to remember that many are lonely; some in “want” of necessities; some needing help with bills; and some just needing our good attitude to improve their day.  He said, “We need to try to cheer each other a little; help each other; be patient with others; love others; and show them we care about them”.  In Ecclesiastes it says to do everything with all our ‘might’ for the Lord.  He ended by saying, “We are all in the same boat; we are all just waiting”.

Thought for the day:  What you are is God’s gift to you; what you do with yourself is your gift to God.
