Mary Ruth Jones, 93

Mary Ruth Jones was born on Dec. 27, 1918, in the town of Shamrock, Texas, one of the six children of Jim Guy and Grace Errington Jones, and departed this life at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care in Ava on Sept. 22, 2012, at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 25 days.

As a child of that era she learned hard work and honor at an early age. Mary worked in California most of her life operating cafes and working at several hospitals through the years. During World War II she worked as one of the famous “Rosie the Riveters” in an airline plant.

Mary was the mother of four children. On Sept. 25, 1952 she married Vernon Jones in Arizona and they worked in California till 1988 when they moved to their home in the Rome community. Vernon preceded her in 1997 as did her daughter, Pat Nugent.

Mary is survived by her son, Michael Martin and wife Carol, of Ozark, Mo., daughter Delia Nipp, of Canyon, Texas, and son, Michael David Jones, of Henderson, Nev.; six grandchildren Maria and Scott Shade, Dr. Terry and May Nipp, John and Sherri Nipp, Denise and Howard Scott, Cindy Maggiulli, and Gina Mahmud. Mary also has seven great-grandchildren surviving.

Mary was preceded by her parents and her brothers and sisters. She loved working in her yard at home and was a fiercely independent lady who was extremely loyal to family and friends.

Funeral services for Mary Jones were Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel with burial following in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 p.m. till service time in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
