Opening Sunday school Joe Lafferty read Psalms 67 and prayer was offered. The Sunday school lesson continued on Acts, chapter 20. Paul’s journey takes him to Troas where he stays for seven days. On the first day of the week, the disciples gathered and broke bread. Paul began preaching and preached on until midnight. There was a man sitting in the third loft named Eutychus. Poor Eutychus fell into a deep sleep and fell from this third loft and was found dead. Paul came down from where he was and told the people in the 10th verse – “trouble not yourselves, for his life is in him.” We try to endure, but many times we are as Eutychus. We become tired, discouraged or weak in the flesh and we too fall asleep. This is a vulnerable time because Satan will use this and attack you while you are weakened. We need to carry on, praying for one and another as well as ourselves to be ever watchful for the sneaky attacks of Satan. We should comfort and encourage one another. Paul came on to Miletus and sent for the elders of Ephesus. He told them how he had “served the Lord with all humility of mind, with many tears, and temptations which befell me by lying in wait of the Jews in the 19th verse. Paul kept on spreading the gospel knowing that he was in constant danger of losing his life. Can you imagine the stress the early church and disciples were in every breath they drew? But they kept on spreading the gospel knowing their life would probably soon come to an end. I think Paul knew his end was quickly approaching and wanted to encourage the disciples from Ephesus to continue spreading the gospel. Paul told it like it was. He never sugar coated it as we see so much today. There’s a hell to avoid and Heaven to gain. This can only be attained through the blood of Jesus. Paul carries his ministry or preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and the grace of God. There was some sadness, however, for Paul was also saying good bye. He tells them they will see his face no more.
The service changed to congregational singing. I think the dust was affecting all of us. It was hard to get through a song without coughing. Never the less, we praised our Lord and Savior through song. It was good to have Sue Thomas back with us to play the piano. Sue and Susie Sisco sang a duet of “He’d Have To Walk Through the Blood.” Satan is going to do his best to destroy us, but according to the word and promise of our Lord and Savior He has to step back. He cannot defeat the blood of Christ. Praise God! I am so unworthy to even say His Holy Name but Praise be unto Jesus who is worthy has taken care of Satan. In the end, he loses. Sue Thomas has such a sweet, angelic voice when she sings and I am so blessed when I get to hear or sing with her and Ronnie. The Holy Spirit just surrounds them as they sing. It’s more than a song when they open their mouths. It is a direct ministry that I know touches hearts.
Brother Joe (Cub) take his text from II Peter chapter 3. His sermon goes right along with the earlier lesson ahd the special singing. There is a new Heaven and earth that the children of God are looking for according to His promise. In the last days there will be those who make fun of those who walk the Christian path saying in verse 4, ‘Where is the promis of His coming.” They walk on continuing in their sins according to the lusts of the flesh. They see things going the same way as they have always been and don’t believe this earth will come to an end. But I believe we are nearing the day very soon. The Lord is not slack concerning His Promise. He tells us to be watchful and ready for He will come as a thief in the night. “The heavens shall pass away and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are there in shall be burned up” stated in verse 10. Jesus help us to continue walking with you doing your will rather than our own. Help us to be ever watchful lest we be led away with the error of the wicked. Help us to be steadfast and lead others to you that we may be found united again with loves ones around God’s Holy throne. Be with the sinners and the unbelievers. Change their heart God I pray in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
I trust you all will have a good week and let us all pray for a much needed rain. May God bless and keep you.
