The opening Sunday school lesson is taken from Acts, chapter 17 and Paul’s speech at Mars Hill. Many gods were in place there in the city of Athens and the Holy Spirit stirred in Paul to preach the truth against idolatry. He says in the 23rd verse, “For as I passed by and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, Him I declare unto you.” Athens was known for its wisdom and yet they have an altar dedicated to the only true God, but they don’t know Him. Paul goes onto say in the 30th verse, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent.” Some came to believe and some only mocked Paul’s teaching of Jesus being raised from the dead and God judging all men by what we have done concerning the accepting or rejecting of His Only Son. The greeks had their gods and I believe they felt they were doing right in dedicating an altar to God the Heavenly Father. They were superstitious, Paul tells them in that they wanted to cover all the bases just in case this UNKNOWN GOD did have the power to build up or destry.

How different is it today. Many confess they believe in God, but their fruits bear that He is only used in a time of trouble or in a swear word. God help those to seek out your son Jesus and know the truth to be set free.

Congregational and special singing began the time of worship. Brother Cub (Joe) Lafferty took the pulpit and the sermon from St. Mark chapter 16 Jesus Christ was risen and instructed the eleven disciples to “go and preach the gospel to every creature.” Them that believe and are baptized shall be saved but he that doesn’t  and rejects Jesus as their Savior shall be condemned to eternal seperation from God. I pray that the readers of this writing will accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and I will see you in Heaven at the feet of Jesus to live forever. Thank you Lord for your mercy and saving grace.

Remember to thank God for your dads as this is “Father’s Day.” Also remember the “Tag Team Campout Revival” effort that is going on at the Dogwood Nazarene Church. God bless you all and God bless the revival with souls rejoicingly saved.
