Norma Stillings had a nice surprise when she got a phone call from a cousin last Wednesday afternoon. Bill and Shirley Saunders of Irving, Texas had driven to Ava to try to find the graves of her grandmother, Lucy Brown Brixey, and great grandmother, Mary Davidson Brown Fannon, who are buried at the Burdett Cemetery. But Shirley could not think of their names, the name of the cemetery, or the last name of her cousin, Norma. What she did remember was that her first cousin, Melvin Rogers, had shown the graves to her back in early fall of 1994. With just about that much information she went to the City Hall where fortunately she was directed to Marilyn Alms.

Shirley was asking Norma for the information on her mother, Lona Brixey Cooper’s family. Norma had a rough summary of the family tree, a map of the cemetery, and a post card written in 1940 by Lona Cooper to Marvel Hunt. She was happy give these things to Shirley. Shirley’s mother, Lona Brixey Cooper, was a sister to Norma’s grandmother, Anne Brixey Rogers.

Janice Keith was a recent visitor with Tom and Jewell Johnson. Tom and Jewell have family there all the time, doing things for them.
