Lisa Cornett Charged With Stealing From Local Rock Quarry

The  Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lisa D. Cornett, 45, of Ava on March 27, and charged her with one count of felony stealing over $500.
The arrest came after the owners of Double Eagle Aggregates became suspicious money was missing from their business and contacted Sgt. Vernon Johnson of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. An undercover investigation was begun in which authorities bought loads of gravel over a period of several days. Subsequently, when Cornett was arrested on March 27, she had $485 dollars cash in her possession which she admitted had all been stolen from the quarry.
During the time the investigation was being conducted more than $700 cash was stolen from the quarry. In an interview with authorities, Cornett allegedly admitted she had been stealing cash since May 2011.
A warrant was obtained on March 28, charging Cornett with theft/stealing over $500 and her bond was set at $15,000.
Sheriff Chris Degase said several of the employees from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office  were involved in the investigation. Degase said he was pleased that they were able to assist the owners of the quarry with this issue and see the person responsible successfully apprehended.
