Verl D. Mitchell, 76 years, passed away on Feb. 21, 2012 at Mercy Hospital (St. John’s), Springfield, Mo.
Verl was born May 2, 1935 in Taney County, Mo. to Marshall Verl and Geneva (Solmon) Mitchell.
Verl was a resident of Washington state for over 40 years where he worked as a Vending Machine Technician. When he retired he moved back to the Ava area to farm.
On July 1, 1993 Verl and Laurena (Schock) Cox were united in marriage in Salem, Ore.
He was a volunteer and member of the Bradleyville Fire Dept. Verl enjoyed traveling with Laurena to visit the kids out West. They enjoyed going with family to see the shows in Branson and also enjoyed working on his tractor.
Verl was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Laura and a nephew, Doug Mitchell.
Verl is survived by his wife, Laurena Mitchell, Ava, Mo.; two daughters, Karen Doane and Genny Hawley, both of the state of Washington; three stepsons, Ben, Mitch and Andrew Cox; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Mitchell and wife, Mary, Ava, Mo., Ross Mitchell and wife, Roxie, Springfield, Mo., and Darrell Mitchell and wife, Donetta, Taneyville, Mo.; three sisters, Lulabell Hale, Oldfield, Mo., Cathy Green and husband, Harold, and Crystal Stacy and husband, Billy, all of Ava; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Verl will be Thursday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Cemetery, McClurg community, officiated by Rev. Bill Austin. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo.
