The High Calling

“How many angels does it take to get home safely?” I asked rhetorically while turning from the counter at the feed store Monday.  “Just one big one” the clerk replied.  Nodding at the response I continued out the door and through the snow to my truck.  Like some folks this week, I had to run an errand on the snow day Monday that couldn’t wait and drove to Ava.  Beginning at Dogwood I could do thirty mph, but by the time I arrived at Ava I had to slow to 20 mph to keep from sliding even with the four-wheel drive.   How many angels did it take to arrive safely?  I don’t know with certainty, it could have been just one big one, or my angels may have worked in a group.   What?  Her angels?  Yes, I am being serious.

I know according to the word of God, that I have an angel(s), and because I did not hinder the work, I can say by faith that an angel or angels worked on my behalf to ensure a safe trip to town and back.

As an heir of God you have an angel(s) too, and Lord willing, we will take a look and receive new revelation at what the Bible says about angels.  By the end of this study you will learn that as a believer in Christ you are an heir and you have an angel(s) and you have power to assist or hinder the working of your angels.

First let’s find biblical proof about being an heir.  Look with me in the book of Hebrews, chapters one and two.

Ch 1:13-14 “But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?  Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”  Are you an heir?

If you believe in Christ, you are an heir because back in verse two it says that God has appointed His Son heir of all things, and when you place your faith in Christ, you became a son of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7) and in Romans 8:16-17 it states that the Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, and if children, then heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ….

Again, “Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?  Is this taking root in your spirit?  In Christ you are an heir of salvation and have a ministering spirit (s) (angel(s)) assigned to you.

Jesus spoke of angels in Matthew 18 when he warned those listening to not despise the little ones, because their angels always beheld the face of the Father, meaning they had the Father’s undivided attention concerning the little ones.  That is a spiritual aspect of Almighty God that as humans is difficult for us to grasp, but is mentioned throughout the Bible and it must be believed through faith.   Another example of an angel is in Acts chapter 12, as the angel of the Lord helps Peter escape from prison and following the escape, when Peter knocks on the gate to be let into the house of John Mark’s mother, they do not believe it is him, and say it must be Peter’s angel instead.

Angels are powerful, ministering spirits who are here to serve and protect heirs of salvation and are a vital part of the redemptive work that God is doing on the earth.  The question is, is your angel working hard or hardly working?  We will answer that question next time.  Until then heirs, God bless you and your loved ones.
