St. Francis Church

Sunday, February 12, was our Sexagsima, or the second Sunday before Lent. Latin for sixteenth, segagesima is approximately 60 days before Easter. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the epistle for the day, II Corinthians 11:19: “Ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.” This epistle was written around 55 A.D. after a report from Titus on the church in Corinth where false apostles had attempted to undermine Paul’s work and in it Paul defends his credentials both as a Jew and as a minsiter for Christ. He also discusses the trials of being a Christian, which does not lessen the difficulties of life, but gives them new meaning through our relationship with Christ.

Bishop Glen Hartley has appointed Joe Criswell as a Lay Leader for our congregation in addition to Tom Berthold, and today Joe led the morning prayer segment of our service and did an excellent job; he has been leading our Wednesday evening prayer service for some time. Joe is also studying for the priesthood and he is a major asset to our congregation.
