Schedule Adjusted to Coordinate with Schools, Minimize Impacts
SIKESTON – Work to replace the Route 76 bridge over Bryant Creek in Douglas County has been postponed once again, and is now expected to begin in June 2012.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) first had the project scheduled to begin in September 2011, then later announced the work would be put off until March 2012.
MoDOT said this week that the work has been postponed until June to minimize the impact on schools.
The road closing would affect both Ava R-1 and Skyline R-2 Schools.
Improvements to the bridge, which is located nine miles east of Ava, will be completed as part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program.
District Construction and Materials Engineer Andy Meyer explained community input is an essential component in scheduling and minimizing impacts to the traveling public.
“The Safe & Sound team values comments from local residents, and we try to make accommodations when possible,” he said. “Based on the school’s input, we worked to find a date that wouldn’t impact bus routes that also fit our contractor’s schedule.”
As work is under way, the bridge will remain closed. Additional details will be released prior to construction.

In the meantime, MoDOT announced this week that Route C in Douglas and Wright counties would be reduced to one lane while MoDOT crews perform shoulder repairs.
This section of road is located from Route 14 in Douglas County to Route E in Wright County.
Weather permitting, work was to begin on Tuesday, Jan 3, and continue through Friday, Jan. 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
