Highway Patrol Investigates Wrecks

Oct 9, 2008

The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated two traffic crashes in Douglas County recently, one of which resulted in serious injuries to a driver.

David C. Shannon, 47, of Drury, was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield on Saturday following an 8 p.m. crash on Route EE, 9½ miles south of Mtn. Grove.

The Highway Patrol said Shannon was traveling south in a 1994 Ford when he ran off the roadway, overcorrected and came back onto the roadway and ran off the right side, overturning twice, ejecting the driver.

A summons was issued for driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving, and no seat belt.

The crash was investigated by Tpr. R.D. Crewse.

Arlene J. Severn, 54, of Springfield, was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield by ambulance following a 1:55 p.m. crash in Douglas County on Sept. 28.

That wreck occurred on Highway 95, five miles south of Mtn. Grove.

Severn was a passenger on a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Dolan L. Severn, 52, also of Springfield.

According to Tpr. D.E. Rogers, of the Highway Patrol, the driver attempted to avoid another vehicle that pulled into his path, and the motorcycle slid out of control coming to rest on its side.
