Ava High School Homecoming
 | | | | Friday night is Homecoming at Ava High School, and the 2008 Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned in halftime ceremonies at the varsity football game.
The Ava Bears will take on the Bulldogs of Springfield Central High School in the 7 o’clock game Friday night. Ava High School alumni are being encouraged to come out to the football game and cheer the Bears on to victory. Those who wish may bring lawn chairs or blankets to spread on the grass in the end zone areas of the field.
Homecoming Queen candidates are Whitney Everett, Clair Fish and Bo Spurlock. Candidates for Homecoming King are Dustin Matney, Jake Plumb and Taylor Wallace. All six candidates are seniors.
A Homecoming Parade will also be held Friday afternoon, and the public is invited to come out and line Jefferson Street or the Ava square and watch the march. The parade will line up behind the high school gym and will step off at 2:30 p.m., arriving on the square at about 2:45. The parade will then return to the high school.
Following the game, the annual Homecoming dance will be held at the school.
The Bears will play at home again next Friday night, Oct. 3, and that game will pay honor to Ava’s first football team – the team of 1948 – celebrating its 60th anniversary. Also given special recognition will be the cheerleaders from that first football team.
Prior to the game, Ava R-1 Schools will hold the annual Family Fun Night from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with lots of activities planned in conjunction with that event.
At the game, members of the 1948 team and their families will sit together at the north end of the football field. Dinner will be provided for the players, cheerleaders and their families by the Ava High School Student Council.
Members of the 1948 team and cheerleaders will be introduced at halftime of the Ava-Cabool football game on Oct. 3.
Team members or cheerleaders from the 1948 squad are asked to contact Russell Hunt, 683-3024, or Larry Silvey, 683-5234.
