Hunter Education Class

Sep 25, 2008

Conservation Agent Mark Henry said this week that a certified hunter education class will be offered in Ava on Friday Oct. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will be held at the Ava Middle School cafeteria. It is mandatory to attend both days. There is no pre-registration necessary.

Students will not need to bring any items with them as books and pencils will be provided. On Saturday at noon there will be a one hour break for lunch. Parents are welcome to pick up the students or they can bring a lunch.
Included in the training will be gun safety, information about firearms and ammunition, the role of the hunter, wildlife management and conservation, responsibilities of the outdoors person, outdoor ethics and Missouri laws.

Those successfully completing the course will receive a hunter education certification card from the Department of Conservation. Such certification is mandatory before a hunter can purchase a hunting license in many states. Certification is limited to students 11 years of age or older.

For further information please contact Conservation Agent Mark Henry at (417) 683-6848.
