Two Arrested,1 Still Sought
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said this week that two subjects have been arrested and are being held in connection with a multiple assault incident north of Ava on the night of Sept. 6.
Douglas County Deputy Atonya Hampton said James Charles Turley, 38, and his brother, Floyd Richard Turley, 35, both of Mtn. Grove, are in custody and are being held on $100,000 surety bond. Each is charged with three counts of 1st-degree assault.
A warrant has been issued for a third person who has not yet been apprehended, Hampton said.
An arson charge may also be pending against one of the subjects.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call at about 11 p.m. on Sept. 6 reporting that an assault was in progress at a residence north of Ava, in the vicinity of Midway near Bryant Creek on Old Highway 5.
Officers arrived to find three male subjects had been assaulted. At the same time, officers also detected that a flammable liquid had been poured throughout the residence, but no fires had been set.
About 2½ hours later, however, it was reported that the same house was on fire. Officers returned to find the house completely engulfed in fire, and the Missouri Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.
