Stolen Yard Ornaments Found;

Aug 21, 2008

After asking for help from the public in locating stolen yard ornaments a couple of weeks, ago, Ava Police report that a large number have been recovered.

In fact, Sgt. Denny Hall, of the Ava Police Department, says ornaments have been recovered that were not even reported missing. Police believe several of the ornaments were taken outside of the city’s jurisdiction.

Ornaments were found at two different locations by Ava city employees where they had been dumped. Since the article ran, police have also been contacted by other individuals who have found large numbers of ornaments they also believe to be stolen.

The city wants to return the stolen ornaments to their owners, but Sgt. Hall said many of the city residents who lost ornaments did not file formal complaints, so police have no record of who the owners may be. Police also have no record of ornaments stolen outside the city. For that reason, anyone who has had yard ornaments stolen in recent months should contact the Ava Police Department and identify their items to claim them.
