Civil War Memorial To Be Dedicated

Aug 14, 2008

A Civil War memorial dedication and the unveiling of a Civil War Memorial will be held Labor Day weekend at the Denlow Cemetery.

The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31.
Ken Brown, of Springfield, an active member of the Douglas County Historical and Genealogical Society, says some 30 Civil War veterans are buried at Denlow.

“We are excited about this and hope to have great attendance,” Brown said. Several people are expected to travel from out of state, so come join us and meet more of your kinfolks. We do hope to see you there,” Brown added.
Brown has contacted the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War (DUVCW) in Springfield to make them aware of this project.

Denlow is located about 19 miles east of Ava on Highway 76, or about four miles west of Highway 95.
