Ava Public Schools Open Next Wednesday;

Aug 7, 2008

The summer vacation is just about over for students and teachers in the Ava R-1 School District.

Classes begin next Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Ava Public Schools. Freshman orientation and open house will be held on Monday, and high school students will pick up their class schedules beginning Friday of this week.

Teachers in the school district will attend an SCA teachers meeting at Cabool Monday morning, then will return for an afternoon teachers meeting here. Open house will be Monday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m., in all schools.

Teacher orientation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the middle school/high school cafeteria.

Link Crew

Ava High School is hosting its second annual freshman transitional program, Link Crew, this school year.
Freshman students can expect to receive a phone call from their LINK leaders telling them about the program and personally inviting them to attend on Monday, Aug. 11, from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

After the Link Crew transitional program, Student Council will be providing dinner for all freshmen, new students, and their parents at 5 p.m. Freshman and new student orientation/open house will follow dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the Ava High School gymnasium.

Administration and students leaders strongly encourage all students and their parents to attend this orientation program, and look forward to seeing them there.

High School Schedules

Schedule pick-up for Ava High School students other than freshmen is as follows:

Seniors, Friday, Aug. 8, in the counselors’ office; Juniors, Monday, Aug. 11, in the counselors’ office; and sophomores, Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the counselors’ office.

Classes will begin at the Ava Elementary School at 8:15 a.m. and the school day will end at 3 p.m. Principal Diana Premer said the 8:15 start time coincides with the middle school.
Mrs. Premer pointed out that class instruction ends at 3 o’clock and students will actually leave the building for pickup in the afternoon at about 3:10.

The school begins serving breakfast at 7:45 each morning. The cost of breakfast for those qualifying for reduced price is 30 cents. Full price breakfast is $1. The reduced price for lunch is 40 cents and the full price for elementary student lunches is $1.35. Extra milk or juice will be 30 cents this year.

Breakfast prices in the middle school and high school are the same as in the elementary school. Lunch prices in the middle school and high school are 40 cents for reduced and $1.50 for full price.

Parents of elementary students are also reminded to use NE 10th Ave. for all student drop-off and pick-up. NE 9th Ave. is reserved for buses, and for the safety of students, parents are urged to respect this policy and not attempt to use 9th Ave. for student drop-off or pick-up.
