Local Youths Vying for Bull Riding Championship

By Sue Curry Jones

The 2015 Youth Bull Riders World Finals in Abilene, Texas, began earlier this week with rider check-in Tuesday morning, and a kick-off celebration that evening.

Today, according to the event schedule, Ava’s Quincey McDonald and Dylan King, members of Team Missouri, are close to completing two of three rounds of the youth bull riding contest.

The youth bull riding competition officially started Wednesday with Round One, and continues today (Thursday) with Round Two.   The last preliminary bull ride is Round Three, which takes place tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 7, and starts at 10 a.m.

Upon concluding the preliminary rounds, total points for each cowboy are tallied with top point-winners making the final cut for one last contest with a rough-stock bull in the Short Round. The Short Round starts at 2 p.m. Saturday.

And ultimately, after four days of participating in an extremely wild and dangerous sport, Team Missouri will return home to the Ozarks, and each and every team member will be proud of qualifying and competing in the special event.
