Sharon Darlene Lakey was born on March 1, 1938 to Delsia and Agnes ”Midge” (Hale) Lakey in Ava, Mo. She departed this life Jan. 27, 2013 at the age of 74.
Sharon lived many years in California before returning to Missouri. Sharon settled in Republic, Mo., where she owned and operated the DL Lakey Trucking. After selling the trucking company, Sharon went to Realtors Institute and started her new career in real estate. Sharon was very successful in this business. She enjoyed helping people get their own home. Sharon owned “Sharon Lakey Real Estate” for many years. She closed the business in February 2009 and went to work for Southwest Realty until her death.
Sharon achieved many accomplishments in her life. She was a certified appraiser, past MLS Director, life member of the Million $ Club, life member of the multi-million $ club and received Chamber Business of the year in 2003. Sharon was a member of the following: Mo. Real Estate Commission, Mo. Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Springfield Board of Realtors (for over 35 years), Chamber of Commerce and Business & Professional Women (Past President).
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Karen Melton; and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by family member, Michael Smitley, several cousins and many, many friends.
Sharon loved to travel and was privileged to go to many places in and out of the United States. Sharon was a fun loving person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at the United Pentecostal Church on Highway 174 Republic, Mo. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Goodhope Cemetery, Ava, Mo.
